Hi, I’m Mattie from Milan, Illinois.

Growing up, I always loved art, but being from a small country town, only two art classes were available to me from the ages of 6 to 18. So, I never considered art to be more than a fun activity. However, when I came to Bradley University, I realized the powerful presence that art has in the world, and that art can and will be my career. 

Four years ago, I had never used photoshop, a sketchbook, or a camera, so to think of how far I’ve come in such a short time is crazy. 

I am forever thankful for art allowing me to find myself within it.

“Your Mental Health Matters”
A poster series focusing on the stigmas surrounding mental health. “Your Mental Health Matters” aims to acknowledge the stigmas surrounding mental health and recognize those stigmas as shameful. This series encourages society to become aware that there is more to mental health than what is on the surface.
“The Room has Eyes”
A photographic series centered around mental health. This series shares the story of what went on within my bedroom walls, and the secrets that the walls held. In High School, I struggled with severe depression, but it went unnoticed by those around me. By the time I reached college, I was doing better. However, Covid struck and forced students to revert to where they came from, thus, sending me back to the confines of my room.
“Back in my day…”
In conjunction with Pets & People Together, Maddie’s Fund, and Ad Council, I designed an advertisement campaign to promote the adoption of senior dogs.
“Beginning to End: The Lifecycle of an IPhone”
“Beginning to End: The iPhone” is an informational graphic poster that takes the viewer through the production, transportation, retail, and end-of-life stages of an iPhone. An iPhone is a powerful device that not only makes an impact on society but on the environment as well. While it is an essential everyday item, consumers are not often aware of the creation of an IPhone, as well as how to properly dispose of the device when the time comes.
“Ride Around”
A collection of marketing materials designed to promote a new bike rental company I created titled, “Ride Around”. “Ride Around” was arguably one of the biggest projects I have faced, and the most challenging. This project pushed me to think past simply designing and consider how advertising is conceptualized. I was able to appreciate that time spent researching leads to future success and to better, unified, designs.
Freelance Photography
A photograph I captured of my brother Nate for his senior portraits. Before coming to Bradley University, I had little to no experience in photography. Sophomore year, I enrolled in a photography course, and was able to uncover a creative side of me that I didn't know existed. Since taking the course, my interest and skills have grown, and I have explored this creative side outside the classroom.
