Adam Meyer is a digital artist and designer from St. Louis, Missouri. He studies at Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois as a second semester senior graduating in May of 2021. Meyer majors in graphic design with minors in user-experience design and social media marketing, where he created work for Bradley’s activities council and chapter of Theta Chi. Currently, Meyer is working on his senior exhibition at Bradley University along with making progress on new personal projects. After graduating from college, Meyer hopes to continue his design work and career at a company or firm with a design team by utilizing different programs and taking on projects ranging from web design to marketing campaigns.

Artist Statement

In our reality and world of (somewhat) normalcy we’re often restricted and held back by the limitations of what we are able to do as human beings. But what if we could do more? What if space was a theme park? What if people and animals were constructed out of letters? Looking at lands and worlds beyond that of what we live in right now and using our imagination to construct limitless possibilities are themes that I break down in my work. Being able to engage the viewer in my creations is relevant to me, therefore my pieces are influenced by artists who think outside of the box, such as Keith Haring and Jean Michel-Basquiat. Having these inspirations in mind helps me reproduce similar themes that mold my work into layered, complex visuals that make different realities and get the viewer thinking with a child-like sense of wonder. Whether it’s the marks that I create with an arsenal of pencils, or the designs that are formed with my powerhouse of a laptop, I am able to use these tools to make anything possible and tap into my experiences to make something imaginative. It’s truly where I challenge myself as a person and tap into my sense of wonder, enjoyment, and sense of self where my art attempts to bring out a similar form of creativity, imagination, dreaming, and feeling of freedom in my audience.

: After being inspired by the English fairy tale Cap-o’-Rushes I was determined to create a custom typeface that represented the themes and world of the story. The final product, which came about after a process of various revisions and modifications to hand-drawn lettering, relates to the rushes (floral) elements of the title character’s appearance and the sense of blooming transformation noted in the tale.

Peoria PlayHouse Children’s Museum Wayfinding App Concept

These screens you see below were made as a conceptual user interface for the Peoria PlayHouse Children’s Museum in Peoria, Illinois. The goal of this project was to come up with a wayfinding app layout and system for attendees to find their way around the museum, read more about it, and be able to learn and use it after leaving. With this mobile app, users are able to not only find their way around with the digital maps included, but also see directions in real time using augmented reality. Additionally, there is information about museum exhibits and even a variety of educational games that offer kids a chance to earn trophies both in the app and around the museum.

This project was made as a revised version of a sophomore year assignment. It was both an exciting venture into informational and editorial design as well as a challenge in properly learning how to manipulate typography in an effective and exciting way.

Paper Towns Book Redesign (Chapter)

This redesign of popular author and content creator John Green’s 2008 young adult novel came about as a project for Bradley University’s editorial design course. The goal was to come up with alternative designs, format, and theming for a book of our choice. I chose Paper Towns since it has fantastic themes of traveling, love, and adventure that make for both great and unique design choices as well as creative formatting of story text and dialogue. With this redesign, I wanted to capture the travel and mystery aspects through the use of maps-based imagery and notes all throughout the visuals on the book. Additionally, different fonts were chosen for some of the dialogue and story text to give the words even more personality and character by giving them their own unique identities.

The Cradle-to-Cradle Infographic was made as a project during the course of Graphic Information Systems. It summarizes the lifecycle of a cell phone, covering the foundational stages of collecting the essential materials for production all the way to when the phone itself is disposed of or donated.

Personal Journey Infographic

This infographic of my personal journey driving throughout St. Louis, Missouri was created during Bradley University’s Graphic Information Systems course in 2020. It condenses all of the information and aspects of my journey that I collected after I drove around, ranging from quantitative data (such as how many stop lights I pass) to qualitative data (like what kind of music I was listening to). The graphic itself creates an environment surrounding these visuals as well, making it so that viewers are transported into the same places and conditions that I experienced while I was driving.
