Caston Cheatom is a visual designer from Lansing, Illinois. He transferred to Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois to continue his studies, where he is majoring in graphic design with a minor in social media marketing. During his time in the graphic design program, Caston found graphic information systems to be the class where he excelled. While at Bradley, Caston was a member of the American Marketing Association, National Society of Leadership and Success, and the American Institute of Graphic Arts. Currently, Caston is working on his senior exhibition while also preparing to graduate in May of 2022. After graduation, Caston hopes to work at a firm or company where he can utilize both his graphic design and marketing skills, while also working on passion projects in his free time.

Personal Journey Wall Chart

Create a wall chart that visually demonstrates a personal journey taken during a frequent amount of time. The completed wall chart needed to be printed in 28”x20” landscape or portrait, with a 1” white border. The finished piece should be coherent and clearly communicate the data while maintaining the graphic integrity. The data should be quantitative and qualitative.

Create a poster for a lecture series with typography as the emphasis. Typographic hierarchy should be considered when presenting the information. The poster must be easy to read and understand so the viewer can know who the main speakers will be. The poster should also demonstrate the excitement of contemporary design to an audience of students and designers.

Peoria Zoo Wayfinding App

For this project, the objective was to design a UX/UI friendly phone app that navigates the user around the Peoria Zoo. The main focus should be on the wayfinding aspect since it guides the user throughout the zoo to everything from animal exhibits to amenities to the entrances and exits. There also needs to be some way of maintaining an ongoing connection between the user and app beyond them just using them at the zoo.

Tohoku Tsunami 10th Anniversary

National Geographic is doing a feature to mark the ten year anniversary of the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami that devastated Japan and as part of this feature there needs to be a gatefold included with the magazine to create a visual narrative. This gatefold should include factual and measurable information about the events leading up to the earthquake and tsunami as well as any events that occurred as a result. There should be minimal body text, only to reinforce the visuals.

Asperger_s Is Manageable

Create an effective brand identity and social media presence for AIM, an asperger’s awareness account. The brand identity should consist of a logo and a color palette, that can work across multiple social media posts and possibly merchandise. Design social media posts that are fun and engaging while providing informational value. The social media posts should reflect a strategy to drive engagement; ie. posting schedule, a common theme, ideas for what to post, etc. There should also be possible ideas for merchandise that can be viewed and purchased through the social media account.

Social Media Junkie

Create a visual data display that communicates how you use social media over the course of a measurable time period. The finished design should be multi-pages/multi-surfaced and tie in with the overall theme. The information should be easy to read and understand at a small size, and also serve to work as a direct-mail piece.

Skin Cancer Campaign

The survival rate for skin cancer in white people is 91% compared to a 65% in black people. This is due to skin cancer either being misdiagnosed or diagnosed at later stages on black skin because the signs are more difficult to identify on black skin and also improper medical knowledge. The challenge was to develop a campaign focused on raising awareness towards melanoma on black skin specifically, and encourage an increase in diagnosis.

Design a twice a year style magazine (print and tablet) that compliments Earth Day’s successful, well established web presence, social media and other marketing tools. The target audience is a mix of existing Earth Day participants, but especially the untapped audience unfamiliar with Earth Day. Things to include are a title/masthead, cover, and three spreads for an Earth Day related story.
